Touring is the quintessential rugby experience. Long after scores are forgotten and bodies begin to slow down, players still remember the trips spent with good people connected by rugby. Bottom of the Ruck Tours are built around preserving and celebrating that spirit of through social rugby experiences that prioritize community, camaraderie, and adventure.

The BOTR touring side brings together players from different clubs, backgrounds, and rugby journeys under one banner for unforgettable trips both on and off the pitch. Whether it is an Old Boys tournament, a summer 7s weekend, or an international rugby tour, the focus remains the same: good rugby, great people, and the stories that come from shared experiences.

These tours are not about elite performance or taking ourselves too seriously. They are about keeping rugby grassy, building connections across the rugby community, and creating memories that last far beyond the final whistle.

FAQ

Who can play?

BOTR Tours are open to rugby players from all clubs and backgrounds. Some tours may have specific eligibility requirements based on age group, tournament rules, or playing division (such as Old Boys 35+), but the overall goal is to create inclusive touring opportunities centered around grassroots rugby culture. We encourage players to get teammates involved.

Do I need to belong to a specific club?

What level of rugby should I expect?

Our trips are aimed at social and grassroots players rather than elite-level competition. Players should still be physically capable of participating safely in rugby activities, but the emphasis is on enjoyment, camaraderie, and the touring experience rather than high-performance rugby. The tours are primarily social in nature with a strong focus on rugby culture, community, and having a great time. That said, once the whistle blows, everyone still likes to compete. Expect a balance of competitive spirit on the pitch and good times off it.

Have you organized tours before?

Yes. I have 20 years of experience organizing domestic trips, tournaments, and travel. Along with that I have organized four international tours in the past decade. Through my travels I have built a network of rugby connections including relationships with international tour organizers and kit providers.

How are payments handled?

Tour payments will typically be collected in installments leading up to the trip. An initial non-refundable deposit will secure a player’s place, followed by scheduled payments as logistics, tournament fees, and kit orders are finalized. Detailed payment schedules will be shared for each individual tour.

Can non-players attend?

Absolutely. Family members, partners, and supporters are welcome to travel and enjoy the experience alongside the touring group unless otherwise specified. While domestic tour fees generally only cover player-related expenses, BOTR encourages making these weekends memorable for everyone involved. For international tours non-players will have the same tour fee as players since most of the costs are built into the touring fees.

What happens if I get injured?

Players participate at their own risk and are responsible for their own medical coverage and insurance. BOTR strongly recommends that all players maintain active health insurance and consider additional travel insurance for domestic or international tours. Specific tournament insurance requirements will be communicated ahead of each trip.

Are international tours planned?

Yes. International touring is part of the vision for BOTR Tours. The goal is to eventually organize rugby experiences that connect grassroots players with clubs, tournaments, and rugby cultures around the world. Currently planned domestic tours are helping lay the foundation for future international adventures. Our goal is to eventually offer at least one international tour per year.
