Question of the week

Where is your favorite place to play?

Question of the Week – September 11, 2025

What is your favorite place or facility to play rugby?

Every rugby player has that one pitch or facility that holds a special place in their heart. Maybe it’s the field where you first laced up your boots, your home ground that feels like family, a memorable tour stop, or even the rare chance to run out at a professional stadium. Wherever it may be, these places become woven into the stories and memories that make rugby more than just a sport.

For our Question of the Week, we asked the community: “What is your favorite place or facility to play?”
The responses showed just how wide-ranging and meaningful rugby venues can be. Here’s a look at some of the favorites that were shared:

Community Responses

@claytonrfc
Cartha Queens Park (Glasgow, Scotland) is our home away from home. Our home pitch at the Johnston County Rugby Park (Clayton, North Carolina, USA) is pretty awesome too.

@j_kelly
Des Moines Rugby (Des Moines, Iowa, USA) has one of THE best facilities in the US! Check them out!

@colinskinner9893
Brockton Oval, Vancouver (Canada). Absolutely stunning.

@jamesriverrfc
Steamboat Porter Rugby Pitch in Sandston, Virginia (USA).

@albanybootleggers
Hoosac School (Hoosick, New York, USA). It’s one thing to play on a great field. It’s another to be able to swim in a pool after.

@esc1920
The Wisconsin Rugby Sports Complex in Madison, Wisconsin (USA) – especially for the Madison Minotaurs Rugby tournament.

@michaelp804
CUS Siena Rugby (Siena, Italy) – all mud and all fun.

Why These Places Matter

Reading through these answers, you can feel the common thread that runs through rugby culture worldwide. Whether it’s a pristine facility in Iowa, a picturesque setting in Vancouver, or a mud-covered field in Italy, these venues are about more than grass and goalposts. They’re about the bonds formed, the moments shared, and the communities built around the game.

That’s one of rugby’s greatest strengths: its ability to create a sense of belonging, no matter where you are in the world.

Keep the Conversation Going

A big thank you goes out to everyone that shared their favorite places to play. We’ll continue to ask these Question of the Week prompts every Thursday, with responses posted on Sundays or Mondays. Sometimes the answers make their way into social media shout outs, and other times—like this week—they turn into full articles for the Bottom of the Ruck community.

So, what about you? Where’s your favorite place to play rugby? Share your thoughts with us on social media and keep the global rugby conversation alive.
