Tell Us Your Grassroots Rugby Stories

Grassroots rugby is the beating heart of our sport. Every club, every team, and every volunteer adds to the rich fabric that makes rugby special—not just the action on the pitch, but the people and stories that bring it all to life. At Bottom of the Ruck, we believe those stories deserve to be told.

That’s why we’re opening the door for you—our readers, players, coaches, referees, volunteers, parents, and fans—to share your experiences from grassroots rugby.

Tales from Clubland: Featuring the People Who Make Rugby Tick

Our ongoing feature, Tales from Clubland, shines a spotlight on the unsung heroes who make grassroots rugby thrive. Maybe you know a coach who has dedicated decades to growing the game in your community, a volunteer who never misses a weekend, or a player whose journey embodies the true spirit of rugby.

We want to hear about them and from them. By nominating someone in your club, you’re helping us celebrate the people who embody rugby’s core values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline, and sportsmanship.

How You Can Get Involved

  1. Submit Your Story – Tell us about a memorable match, a quirky tradition at your club, or how rugby has impacted your life.

  2. Nominate a Legend – A volunteer, referee, coach, player, or administrator who deserves to be recognized in Tales from Clubland?

  3. Spread the Word – Encourage your teammates, clubmates, and rugby family to get involved.

Your story doesn’t need to be long or polished, just genuine. The small moments are often the ones that resonate most.

Why It Matters

At Bottom of the Ruck, our purpose is simple: to highlight all of the great things happening at the grassroots level. Too often, the spotlight is focused on professional rugby, while the lifeblood of the sport, grassroots clubs, remains in the background.

By sharing these stories, we not only honor the people who keep rugby alive, but also inspire others to get involved, join a club, or support their local community.

Share Your Story Today

If you’d like to submit your own grassroots rugby experience or nominate someone for Tales from Clubland, get in touch with us by email at inthebottomoftheruck@gmail.com.

Let’s celebrate the people, the clubs, and the communities that make rugby more than just a game.
